RE: Rivets between cab and cab over snapped?

Whoa! I was looking for something else and came across this thread...thank Goodness! I have a 97 Jamboree rallye... After a long trip, I noticed the cab really creaking and the headliner on the left slipping down out of the holding beads and the headliner on the right pushing up. I thought it looked like the cab got torqued or something! The opening where the seat belt goes into the liner and is anchored to the guts was larger and looked crooked inside- all shifted! I used to have a truck camper and was always concerned about torsion/chassis torquing. I'm gonna go out there and open her up and see what's going on now! Thanks for sharing JHLady and everyone's helpful answers! What would we do without you all?!

RE: I have to tow a 1997 Wrangler...

Do you mean chains that hook to the RV; safety ones? Not snow...right? Duh! How do I hook up lights? And how does the Jeep stop? Just like my pony trailer? Or am I supposed to add special brakes? I had a 4 place jet ski trailer with those...I wound up dragging the whole thing down the freeway. I only figured it out from the smoke pouring from the trailer's tires! And a funny whining sound (music was too loud, I'm afraid!)OH- and all of the folks waving at me and me waving back, like, Hi! Yes, it is a great day to head to the River! Yep. Welcome to the insanity!

I have to tow a 1997 Wrangler...

Dumb blonde here. I DID DO A SEARCH... but I was so confused by the bickering and arguements, I still can't figure anything out! I have a 97 Class C Jamboree Rallye. And a 97 Jeep Wrangler, 4x4, maual. I just got. It has a tow thingy on the front that the guy said he used to tow behind HIS RV. It's welded on forever. SO. I need to get it to my new digs. I need step by step instructions. There is no manual, by the way. The dude said just hook it up and go...but I think I'm supposed to do something to the 4 wheel drive or shifter? Also, does it register miles on the odometer? Just wondering. Can I put stuff in it while driving? Like ice chests, canoe, boxes? Thanks! PLEASE Keep it simple, as I am not very savy on this kinda stuff!

RE: Applying Liquid-Roof questions

The folks at Alpha Sytems got back to me. They recommend either replacing the roof or using their patch kit. They stated if we wnated to retain the membrane (the rubber roof) we would need to reattach it w/ adhesive. What we did was this: Amazingly, the entire roof rolled up! Just came up like nothing was ever sticking it to the subsurface. So we rolled it up and off. Not easy, as it's thick and HEAVY!! Next, we replaced the rotted wood underneath. Not too hard. Since we cut out the patches before removal of the membrane, we were able to mark the spots where the patch was on the subsurface. Sure enough, wherever there had been a patch, there was a leak. The water ran under the rubber roof to the sides and down into the coach. We had to pull some rotted******out of the tops of the walls, too. We squirted Great Stuff-(for windows, as it doesn't expand or get as hard as regular GS)into the tops of the walls where we had to pull out rotted crud. The water pretty much found an escape at the tops of the windows. (Those are next!) We sealed the seams of the new plywood and brushed a sealer over the entire roof of just wood, now. We worked on the rubber membrane on the ground. We unrolled it onto a tarp and worked on it with our sox on so as not to harm it. We had cut out the old patches. My buddy thinks he used Kool Seal patches. I think these have petroleum in them and thus caused the breakdown. Or he just did a crappy patch job! Anyways, we replaced and repatched with Dicor and Eternabond. Next, we got the roof back up there (NOT EASY!!) and glued her back down. Was easy, as the membrane already had the 'shape' of the roof, if you know what I mean. Then we used Liquid-Roof over the entire thing. Sealed it up GOOD. All the joints, seems and cracks were done with Dicor and the L-R slathered on nice and thick. We installed a Turbo Kool in the back bedroom while we were at it, making sure to seal the heck out of it! It looks like a brand new roof! Quieter, too. Whole thing cost us about $500.00 in Liquid-Roof, Eternabond tape, Dicor, plywood, sealer and butyl. Well worth the work! It really wasn't hard...just takes time and patience. She won't leak anytime soon!! We are now in the process of popping out the windows and resealing those. RV ownership...Good times. I will post pics, if I can figure out how!

RE: Applying Liquid-Roof questions

I understand that the Liquid Roof goes OVER the current roof. My question is, what if the current roof is not adhereing to the underlayment? When I put the LR over the roof, what is going to make the 2 layers of rubber stay on the roof? HOW do I go about properly gluing down the existing roof without pulling it up/off? And if I'm going to pull it off, why not just start fresh? The web site for Liquid Roof states the stuff can go directly on to plywood. That's what got me thinking about using a thick coat of LR instead of a roll of EPDM. Which is LR, only poured, set and rolled up. It leaks EVERYWHERE! I mean all over. The walls were pouring like waterfalls! I think all the patches are allowing water in. The water is steered to the edges by gravity due to the slight pitch. The caulked joints all seem OK. It's just those damn patches (there are about 8 of them!) Also, how the heck do I clean and rinse the roof if it's going to get through to where it should not? I mean, water is the problem, so now I'm going to add more? I'm stymied.

RE: Rental Units for sale

Ours is an ex rental. Of course, our buddy was the one to purchase it. We shared a lot of trips in it with him. Then we got it from him. It was maintained rigorously byt the rental Co. We have the records that show everything from an oil change to a busted blind being replaced! It's loaded with lots of extras. The only problem in all this was my buddy. Not RV friendly. He ran it under anything standing to gouge the roof repeatedly. I swear, he thought he was in a VW Bug! Then he patched it with whatever and forgot about it. He let his yard apes go bananas in it...talk about rough treatment! Leave a 3,5 and 12 year old in an RV during a rainstorm for an hour and you'll find yourself with an RV tattered like a ticker tape after a tornado! I traded it for a truck he needed more than the RV. Since I got it on the cheap, I put in a bit more bling. We refloored with wood laminate (I don't want to even know WHAT that smell was coming from in the carpet!!), swapped out the tiny double sink for a big single bowl (Now I can soak a pan!-OOOH!), reupholstered, sound system, TVs, all that kinda stuff. Now we're resurfacing the roof due to recent leaks. From Bud's run-ins with low hanging gas station canopies. Trees. Tunnels. Bushes. Overhanging river rocks (interesting story...). I swear, he shoulda been a burrowing mammal. My Pop bought a brand new Phaeton at the same time. So far, we've spent about the same amount of money on "repairs" (mine were really upgrades, remember!), but I don't have that big payment each month! Nice! It wrecks him each time he has to loose travel time to the maint. garage! Cancelation fees here and there are not fun! Anyhoo...ask for all the service records and bring it to your favorite mechanic. Bring your check list, too. I saw it somewhere here on RV.Net. That REALLY helped! Bud looked at a lot on the sales lot. He got to see all the rental records (usage records) and picked the one with the lesser amount of rentals and less mileage. Although the mileage was pretty high, there have never been any engine probs. Routine maint. and she runs cold and strong! Just do your homework. Do it now, before the seaason starts, so you don't feel the rush and excitement to get out on the road ASAP! Happy Trails!

RE: Onan Emerald Plus 4000

We had the exact same problem on our 97 Jamboree. Same thing: ran the old gas off and it's fine, now. Changed the spark plug and did what the manual told me to, not much help. It was the gas what done it.

Why do the batteries die on shore power?

Why do my batteries all die when I'm plugged in to shore power? The house batts and the engine one! Can't run the heat, as the lil sensor runs off the batts. I have to unhook the cables completely. My Pop says I need an isolator. Where do I put it? Any schematics I can find any where on the net? For a 97 Jam. Rallye.

RE: Applying Liquid-Roof questions

I have edited this post so many times and the edits are not showing. So now I'm just replying. Sorry if the edits are showing up for everyone else and this is all a repeat! We are not using Eternabond until we get more info, like can it go under the Liquid Roof? The present roof, EPDM- Alpha System Royal Roof, seems to kinda move. Like it's not attched to the plywood underneath. Maybe water has gotten under all the different patches (Maybe they were petroleum based!) and lifted the roof membrane from the wood? Should we cut the old patches out, maybe squirt some adhesive all around up under the membrane, Eternabond patch them, then paint new Liquid Roof on? Or take the whole membrane off and paint on the new Liquid Roof directly onto the plywood? May have to replace plywood. The only time I've seen this project, they use a huge roll of rubber. I'm not that strong! Or willing to part with all that money and time. I really like Liquid-Roof, as it's not water based. But I don't want to just paint it onto the membrane that's not securely attached to the plywood! Help! Anyone? THANKS!!

Applying Liquid-Roof questions

I have now found out I have an Alpha EPDM Roof System. That leaks like a sprinkler. The Coach is a 1998 Jamboree Rallye. We plan on "painting" on a new roof. We LOVE the EPDM Liquid-Roof (out of Pennsylvania). But a dealer told us we should go with Dicor Sealer. The Liquid-Roof prep seems easier. We are doing this ourselves. I've read so much info...I'm confused!! Dicor is a water based acrylic. According to Liquid-Roof...that aint great. SO.... I guess I'll just use Liquid-Roof. NOW...Can I use EternaBond under it? For the seams? Can I apply the Liquid Roof directly to the underlayment of plywood? I may tear off the rubber roof membrane that's up there now; it seems to move around-like it's not attched to the plywood! Perhaps water got under one of the many patched areas? Should I cut these patches out and squirt some adhesive all around under the membrane and then repatch with Eternabond? Maybe the previous owner used a petroleum based patching system! Can I just tear off the membrane and paint the new stuff on over the plywood? I may have to replace the plywood. The only projects I seelike this, they use the sheet of rubber that comes in a roll to replace the whole roof; not paint on Liquid-Roof. I'm not that strong! After getting a dozen different answers from dealers/service guys, I figure I'd beeter ask the experts here at RV.Net. Thanks!

RE: HOW do I know if I have a vinyl or rubber roof??!!

I found a packet with EVERYTHING about the rig deep under the dinette seating! I have an EPDM Rubber Roof System by Alpha/Royal Roof Systems. Nice to know! So now I'm probably going with EPDM Coatings Liquid Rubber Roof in the handy 5 gallon pail size. But first I want to run Eternabond all the way around the edging: that's where the entire coach leaks- along the edge seam. BAD! I don't want to spend thousands to replace the enitire roof, so I'm hoping sealing the heck out of it will work. BTW: Has anyone tried the stuff at Camping World; Kool Seal rubber roof? Is it the same as EPDM Coatings Liquid Roof (out of PA)?

HOW do I know if I have a vinyl or rubber roof??!!

I've spent days reading posts regarding roofs. I have a 97 class c Jamboree Rallye. It is leaking like a sprinkler! I can't tell what the previous owner used to repair the roof, but he used something. The roof is no longer "original" looking. There are obvious repairs. I'd like to use EPDM coating...Liquid Roof, with Eternabond and Dicor for the obvious tears/cracks. But how do I know that I have a rubber roof? Is there a way to tell one from another? Is there some kind of chemical test? Like a swab? I test toys for lead with a swab...is there something like that for vinyl and rubber material? I've looked up the specs, but I've heard stories of manuals stating one material when in reality another material was really used! Any help would be most appreciated!- Thanks!
